Story Ownership?
I don't understand the notion of story ownership. We don't own
stories - instead we own tasks. What is the value of story
ownership?
Is the Product Manager always supposed to own the story?

Yes, the product manager is supposed to always own a story. But, there were some cases where there were multiple product managers and people wanted to assign the story ownership to either one. You can just ignore this if you only have one product manager. We should make this more obvious that it is only important in this scenario.

In that case, I suggest the product-owner always be the default owner.

The thing is it's optional. If you are the product owner and are subscribing to notifications, you will receive it even if you don't specify that you're the owner on the story level itself. The problem comes where if you have multiple story owners, how do we tell which to populate the box with?

hm, well, I think the notion of multiple story owners implies separate projects altogether, with separate product owners. The scrum team is not supposed to sprint on multiple projects simultaneously - at least not within the same sprint.

Also, Ninja lists any user as a Story Owner - not just those with Product Owner role. This is a confusing feature of Ninja we'll have to ignore.

We need to make it more obvious that it is optional.

I think we should just remove this field. As I recall it was for a weird edge case where someone wanted to be notified about only a particular story, but not all stories. I don't think that's extremely valuable. If people want notifications, they get them all (as they should if they are a product owner)

We can't remove this. We implemented it for Real. And, many other systems have the concept of a story owner. This is so notifications can happen as a one-off.

are you sure this was for Real or for the other guy who bailed? (forget his name, he was French?)
perhaps we should at least limit it to product owners only
